triinu and plums

What did the girls do today? They both woke up late as we are still getting over our excruciating jet lag. I think Marta and Anna both finally fell asleep at 3 or 3.30 AM. I was still up until 4 or 4.30 AM. I slept until 11.30 AM, which is better than yesterday. Yesterday we got up at 1 PM.

I helped put their clothes on, which wasn't easy because Anna took her clothes off twice. But that's the last thing I remember. To tell you the truth, I ran the errands today, which means that Epp was on tüdruk duty. When I got back, Triinu, the neighbor's daughter who is 4, came over and the girls were SO happy to have a friend to play with. They played on the swings and picked plums and ate lots of fruit.

God, Anna is really talking up a storm these days. She knows obscure terms like 'peanut butter.' And to think that there was a time when I worried she would never learn to talk. Anna even knows the Estonian and English words for water. Marta is proud of her English. She was translating a bit for Triinu. "Do you know how to say 'Tere' in English?" asked Marta. "It's 'Hi.'" "Hi?" said Triinu. "That sounds so weird."

The whole time they played, they were waiting for me to finish assembling Anna's second birthday present -- a bed with a slide. It took me all day to put it together. By the end of the day I was exhausted, but the girls loved it. Little Anna was climbing up the slide and going down. Marta too. Anna finally fell asleep at a normal time -- around 11 PM. Right now it's past midnight and Marta is still up. I think I should turn in too. There's only so much an issi papa can accomplish in one day.
